Tronies is a series centred on the face as a space for expression, memory and identity. The works do not function as biographical portraits, but as borrowed faces through which Diego Serrano projects emotional and mental states, memories and personal experiences.
In some paintings, expression emerges directly through the act of painting, without a pre-existing narrative. In others, intimate experiences or more defined symbols come to the surface. In every case, the identity of the person depicted remains secondary to what the painting reveals.
The names of goddesses carry no specific mythological meaning. Their purpose is to give each face a symbolic and impersonal identity while preserving the open nature of the series.
